6x37 steel wire rope is a popular classification of 6 strand round strand ropes, with each strand containing approximately 27 to 49 wires. Compared with 6x19 construction, which places greater emphasis on abrasion resistance, 6x37 wire rope is especially valued for its excellent fatigue resistance.
The superior fatigue performance of 6x37 wire rope comes from the larger number of smaller wires in each strand. This construction allows the rope to perform well in applications involving repeated bending over sheaves and drums, making it a reliable choice for dynamic lifting and hoisting operations.
In most cases, 6x37 wire rope constructions are designed to provide the best balance of performance for each rope diameter. As the rope diameter increases, more wires can be used to achieve the required fatigue resistance while still maintaining enough wire size to provide suitable abrasion resistance.
Because of its flexible structure, 6x37 steel wire rope is widely used in applications where bending performance and service life are important. However, due to the greater number of wires, this construction can be more susceptible to crushing than ropes with fewer, larger outer wires. To improve performance, this issue can often be reduced by using an independent wire rope core (IWRC), along with properly designed sheaves and grooved drums.
